LOST: Maternity Leave

I'm studying for my Greek final and then heading off to visit Mickey for a while, so I'll leave you guys to analyze things while I'm gone. (If there are any more hieroglyphs you can save them for me. ;)

I guess we are to believe the "others" are really part of the Dharma experiment. The raggy clothes of "the others" that we saw hanging in their medical bunker and the fake beard belonging to that big guy (who kidnapped Walt and acted is the leader when Jack, et.al. were trying to find Michael)demos their attempts to represent themselves as just other cast-aways. And that young girl did resemble Rousseau. Did anyone call her Alex? (Since this occurred BEFORE they had Walt or Michael, I'm left wondering if they stay all together as one group or if they are spread out in different bunkers.)

Who do you suppose the big cheese, "he", is that they referred to as their boss("HE won't like this")? And if there is a plague, you KNOW someone in our group is going to eventually come down with it and they will have to consider killing him, as Rousseau did her crew. (I bet the "others"/Dharma people REALLY hate Rousseau! She's quite a fly in the ointment.)

I'm glad to find out they didn't hurt the Australian girl during her two weeks of captivity. Ethan seemed positively "human" for a while there. But they all seemed quite happy to consider taking the baby and killing the mother!

So do you think that the Dharma program releases a virus to kill off people on the island that are not suppose to be there (pesticide) and they want the children b/c they require less vaccine or it is only possible to vaccinate children? Or is testing a vaccine part of the project?

Of course later, Clarie will have to face the decision to give her baby up to the other's so it can live.

Locke is continuing his downward spiral into dorkdom.

I think Echo clearly knows that Gale is an other- hence why he apologized to him for killing the other other's. Echo is cool. Jack should be sure to get Echo on his side.

The other option for the people in the bunker- maybe they aren't part of the project, but a plane of OB/GYN's headed to a conference crashed on the island (jk).

I read that "Ethan Rom" is an anagram. So instead of studying vocab, of course I looked at it a while. Am I missing the "obvious"? All I can see is "more than". "manoreth"? Ok...I'm just NOT seeing it. Come on you Geeks...get to it.

That baby mobile made up of the Oceanic jets was a just a little freaky. Does that mean Dharma brought down the airplane?

I'm disappointed with Locke that he is so easily rattled. Gale WAS rather obvious...duh... Last season I began to trust Locke to the point I was thinking he was once special forces or something. But now it seems he's just a fake putting on an act as "Mr. Calm", "Mr. I've-Got-It-All-Together".

Eko is cool. A tad too superstitious for a supposed Christian, but he has his own "Integrity" list. (Loved Gale's eyes when he saw Eko walk in and again when Eko pulled out that big knife!) Eko is the real thing, compared to Locke's outer act. You're right, Jack needs him on his side. But I think Eko can read people pretty clearly.

Beth...love your theory about the planeload of Ob-Gyns. ;)

Ethan Rom = Other Man

Oh, and I'm not a geek.

Well, okay, maybe....

The baby mobile made sense. Remember Claire's weird dream last season? She saw Locke with one black and one white eyeball, and a baby crib with an airplane mobile. Except the planes were all broken in half. I've thought Dharma brought the plane down for a while now, but now I'm almost certain.

What is up with Locke? I thought for sure Locke was onto Gale when he so obviously started playing him against Jack.

I think beardless Zeke was referring to either the guy that we saw in the tutorial film with the bushy black beard that started the Dharma project with his wife, Alvar Hanso, or.... Jack's dad. I have this lingering feeling that 1) Jack's dad isn't dead, and 2) He's a big wheel at the cracker factory, if you know what I mean.

I'm still stuck on the whole clone thing, so I think that the "infection" may not be an infection at all, but a glitch, or breakdown in the stability of the clones that causes them to "get sick" and die. Whether or not it's contagious, I'm not sure yet, but my theory is that they are trying to perfect the cloning process and need new life to do it (hence the attempt to take Claire's baby).

Oh, and if we want to do anagrams:

Henry Gail (the guy Rousseau captured) = Hear Lying

Nope, no geeks here....

Beth said...

Where did you get the clone thing from? Cloning is so overated.

Ian said...

One of the links on the Hanso Foundation website shows a list of current projects. One of them is listed as "juxtapositional eugenics" (comparitive cloning).

Ok, Ian, I'll allow that you're on the "cool" end of the Geek spectrum. ;) This AM I was rebooting the computer for Colin before I went to class and I played with the anagram...but you beat me to it! That's a great anagram for Gale's name!

Beth, I would bet there aren't any scientists writing the show, so they are writing rather imaginatively, I would assume. I can understand your frustration about misunderstandings about something you know a lot more about. I get that way with history sometimes...OK, all the time. You're usually safe as long as you don't watch TV "specials". It's like being a Christian who reads their Bible and then sees "Prince of Egypt" or "Veggie Tales" (had to put that in for Doug)...it just grates!

Ian, where is that "Hanso Foundation" site? I never did go to look at it.
And, Jen- where is the site for Charlie's group? I never looked at that either.

Back to work. See you all when I get back...

I couldn't get into the Hanso Foundation cite at the moment, but here is a blog that got info off of it.

http://www.geocities.com/bignate_2000/hanso.html

One letter is about how they had to cancel Dharma b/c of a mutated form of meningococcal bacteria- there were told to cease and desist by WHO (I wouldn't know why).

I will have to look around on that site more- looks like it will be fun.
thanks

OK, so believe it or not! I had a great post all put on here and lost it. It was the first one yesterday don't you hate it when that happens???

Thoughts on Claire...remember she was warned by the guy in Australia not to let ANYONE take the baby, she was not to let it out of her sight...something was going to happen to the baby! I think she forgot that warning!! How did they know that the baby was a boy?? weird, what about those planes, what was the song it played? I can't remember what it was, signifigant though.
Good anagrams! what are the other peoples last name? Jack, Claire, Kate, Sawyer? they may have something hidden as well...you never know.
Henry, wow how obvious was that? I really can't believe that John is falling for that one. Echo, yeah he knows, I think he is going to stick around the bunker so that he can be there when John breaks and lets Henry out. UGH!!
Rousseau, her daughter is Alex not a boy...who knew! She is the spitting image of her mom. The blue eyes are a dead give away, and she is helping too not working with them. I think that Rousseau is going tobe sticking around the beach, in the jungle enough so that they don't know but close enough to help them when it is needed without them really knowing that she is there. She wants to help them. She has a good heart, just a fearful one I think.
What about the previews for next week...anyone see them?
I must say after a LONG day of skiing watching LOST was the last thing I wanted to do...but, I didn't want to miss this conversation! so, I stayed up!!

The web site for Charlie is
www.driveshaft.com take a look it is pretty funny!!

OK...I will leave you all with that for now! BYE!!

Oh...Yeah, Ian you are a geek, no one else ever would have gotten those names! ;)

The song the mobile played was "Catch a Falling Star". If you remember, that was the song that Claire told the couple that was going to adopt Aaron that she wanted them to sing to the baby. Hmmm....

Cool thing about Rousseau (I have to give credit to Michelle for finding this one): One of the Enlightenment philospher Rousseau's concepts was that man was a "Noble Savage". How fitting is that?!

Jen said...

thanks for the song Ian, I knew it but couldn't place it...leave it to you!

Jen said...

Adam: good call! I can't believe that no one else caught that one!! wow...see what new people add to the discussion!!

Ian said...

Something elsse about the vaccine... each bottle has the numbers on it.

Beth said...

Jen- I think I saw that they had an ultrasound at the place Claire was- so that was how they knew it was a boy. I think they mentioned the full name was Alexandra earlier this season- or maybe it was the Hurly episode last season.

Who is Desmond?

It is interesting about the psychic Clarie was seeing. At first I thought he put her on the plane to stop her from giving her baby away knowing the plane would crash- but now it seems he put her on the plane so the other's could take him.

Beth said...

I'm sure the Dharma project brought the plane down on the island on purpose- probably to continue the experiments they are doing. What I think is weird is how all the people on the plane interacted with eachother in someway before they got on. That is the creepiest. Like the Dharma project was controlling their lives long before they even got on that plane. Maybe they were created on the island, released and brought back.... hmm...

Jen said...

Adam, I am so glad that you are now in this conversation! Can't wait to watch it in Guatemala with the "southern" groupies! :)

Beth: they did have an ultrasound machine there, yes! I did know that BUT the room was done long before they took her I think, that was the sense that I got from it when Ethan brought her to the room.

Adam: Jacks dad could be alive, wouldn't that just be odd...but so is everything else on this show! remember though, a bunch of the people have "seen" things from their past that haunt them. the horse, all the numbers, heroine, (ok...so that was real) Jacks dad...what else? can anyone remember? I know that we have thought of other things but, my mind it drawing a blank right now!

When is the next new episode coming out? is it on the 22? Adam, get the popcorn ready. (or do I need to buy that in the states?) ;)

Beth said...

Hmm.. interesting- yes it would have taken them a while to do that room- did Claire know it was a boy before he was born?

PS Do you remember when Tim used to blog? Hmm.. your mama's not blogging for ya this week.

Jen said...

I was wondering if Tim fell off CA into the pacific, but I think we would have heard that. RIGHT?

Ian said...

No kiddin', huh? I can't stand it when people start a blog and then never update it! I mean, why bother, right? Some people...geez

Ian
(who actually did update his blog in the last couple of days. [I know it's a shameless plug, but I figured no one would know otherwise!])

I was wrong, I will admit it! I just check on the drive shaft site...it is actually www.driveshaftband.com
check it out if you havn't already! they even have a tribute to flight 815, and they go back quite a ways! it's really funny how much the writers are into this show! KINDA odd!

sorry people, but I just saw the episode. between shepherd's conference and everything else, i just didn't have time to get it and watch it.

Does anyone ever wonder why the people can't kill Crazy French Lady? If she's as troublesome as we know her to be, why wouldn't they just knock her off? Why has she been able to survive this long?

AND WHERE DOES THE ELECTRICITY COME FROM?! including the electricity that went to C.F.L.'s bunker when Sayid got kidnapped.

I didn't think they were the same, but I guess the others are dharma people.

DOES ANYONE COMMUNICATE? did they tell Jack or Locke about the bunker they found?

If each bunker was for investigating something, what was this bunker for? Did anyone get a clear look at the Dharma logo in this one. It looked like a cross with maybe a snake wrapped around it or something.

And why would Dharma evacuate the bunker? Do we really think that they just left it there and didn't think anyone would find it?

Locke HAS to know that henry gale is trying to turn him against Jack. And Locke asks Jack what's the plan when it was HIS idea to put him in the locker. and what's the junk about 'my bunker'?

Is sun really pregnant? will they try to take their baby? Will Jin finally snap and beat the junk out of someone?

BethsMomToo said...

Tim, you know that logo - that's the medical logo, the one you see on ambulances and EMTs. It's based on the Greek god Asclepius, the god of healing. BUT it is also mindful of Moses holding up the snake in the Wilderness - if you had been bitten by a poisonous snake and looked up in faith you'd be healed... [My favorite memory of that story is the time I was with Grammy H. in the waiting room at the VA Hospital, while Papa was having surgery. I was cutting out the visuals for that story for SS. Grammy asked me what the story was about, so using the back of a chair as a felt board I gave a presentation to everyone in the waiting room, including the gospel analogy. It had to have been one of the oddest moments in witnessing I have ever had!]

Tim Costine said...

that's what I thought it was. so would that imply that they saw the purpose of that hatch to fight the 'infection'? And what would that imply about it now being empty and not being used?

BethsMomToo said...

I think it was definitely a "medical" bunker and I suspect they HAD to abandon it when they lost Claire. What they feared might happen (she would remember where it was) did indeed occur. But they stripped the place and took everything with them, so I assume they just set it up again somewhere else.
