LOST: SOS

I think Jen is onto something here with the medical tie-in. There are certainly turning out to be a lot of them! Now we know a little more about Rose and Bernard. I can't write too much detail because you-know-who hasn't seen the episode yet. So I'll save my observations for the commentaries. All I will say here is that "Henry" has an evil...evil...evil smile. And Jack gave Kate the right response to her apology - he must have heard me yelling it to him...am I prescient or what? ;)

I hate seeing Locke come unraveled. But it appears Rose did a good job cheering him up (her gift!). What a sly little thing she is...keeping Locke's secret all this time! Of course, the question is, are they permanently healed or would they revert to their former condition if they left the island? I think they would stay healed, that the island actually "healed" them. I'm convinced the island is a separate entity from the experiment. Maybe the island's unusual characteristics is what lead them there in the first place. The question is...how did they find it to start with?

Poor, poor Sawyer. She's a good pal, but when Jack whistles, she follows. Sawyer at least got Vincent, the dog to hang out with him. And didn't Jack and Kate look good together in a net? (was THAT contrived or WHAT?) How did Jack get to be such a good shot, hmmm? Does it have something to do with his learning to play poker so well?

The "others" seemed to catch on pretty quickly to the prisoner trade idea, it just wasn't the prisoner Jack and Kate were looking for. The previews look scary...I don't like the idea of an all-out war. It's been live and let live recently. This could upset the balance considerably, never mind the possibility we could lose some characters. (Of course, all those extras who showed up for last night's episode are expendable. Where did all those people come from?)

Did you notice that they only showed Kate from the neck up? Clever...hiding and expanding belly! even in the net, they had them up close and personal! When are they going to "reveal" her?

Best line of episode (other than Jack's response to Kate's apology, of course):

Bernard to Eko - "I think I liked you better when you just hit people with your stick."

Observations (then I'll study ...promise):

Rose & Bernard were headed for Ayer's Rock in Australia, aka Uluru. (The healer's name was Isaac Uluru.) Aborigines consider Uluru to be a sacred place. Isaac Uluru talked about it being a geographical place with special forces. Obviously the island is supposed to be another such place. Anyone know anything special about Niagara Falls (where Bernard proposed), other than its a place of tremendous power? (When we visited there I was completely amazed at HOW powerful those falls are...somehow you just don't get the full effect of it on TV - it blew me away & I acutally got weepy about it!)

Music: they played two Otis Redding songs in this episode. ("Come to Me" when Rose's car was stuck in the snow and "These Arms of Mine" in the couples montage at the end (where Sawyer ended up with Vincent. ;) [Btw, Otis Redding died in a plane crash. We seem to be hearing from a lot of artists who died in plane crashes!]

Minutiae: There was a tabloid magazine at the healer's place in Australia. Above the "Miracle in the Outback" lead story was a small blurb saying, "winning lottery number...personal horror". [Hurley??]

A theory I got from someone: Jack saved someone who was supposedly unsaveable (his subsequent wife); he plays cards better than a con artist; he shoots a handgun better than Kate, who's military Dad taught her. Is it normal for him to be "the best surgeon", "the best card shark" and "the best marksman"? Or is there a certain "luck" that hangs on to him, a force that follows him around?

Another theory: Does pushing the button in the bunker let a remote site know that someone there is still alive? Life extension is listed as one of the foci of the Hanso Foundation (on their "website"). And did you notice that the initials for another of their areas: Juxtapositional Eugenics Developement Institute are - JEDI? ;) cute...cute...

watched the episode sunday afternoon, about Michael: would the 'others' just let him go with the information that he has without expecting him to react in a certain way. I mean, they let him go and all he talks about is striking back at them. does this idea seem a bit planted or at least 'encouraged'.

when Locke was listening to Otis Redding i was like, "They had Otis Redding and they were listening to all that other junk first?" man, that'd be played 24/7 if I were there.

About Niagra, all I know is that the falls are a lot further than anyone ever realizes. a four hour drive no matter how close you are.

Hopefully Locke will get better and start exploring a bit more and rediscover his drive to learn more.

oh, and the incomplete SOS sign on the beach looks like a sad face: :(

Here's something that I noticed. When Jack and Kate get to the clearing, you know the "line" their not supposed to cross, Jack points out all the landmarks that he recognizes: where the Others pulled Kate out, where Zeke was standing, etc., but did anyone else notice the enormous black rock right behind him? They showed it a couple of times. This has to be the real "black rock", not the boat. In the lower right section of the map on the blast doors, the black rock is mentioned as the final resting place of Magnus Hanso. There must be a link between why that spot is the line, the Other's turf, and the fact that the black rock, and therefore Magnus Hanso, is there.

Something else. When Rose was in Isaac's tent, looking at all the thank you letters, one in particular stood out to me for a few reasons. First, the camera landed on it for more than a few seconds. Second, it was written in big blue letters in a child's scribble, but was signed with a script signature. Third, Isaac was spelled incorrectly. could be nothing, but I'm still trying to make out the signature.

I too noticed the card, I did try to make it out, but couldn't as well. It one of the kids? Walt's mom died in a car crash didn't she? or did she have something? Could it be just from Walt...was he sick at one point, and we have not seen it yet? Who knows when we will find out Walts past...he is off the show now (as a main character) so...will they show his past? maybe they will show it with Michael like they did before.

Michael was definitly staged! How could it not have been? They knew they were waiting all day for them to come out. They knew before they went I am sure. they have eyes everywhere don't they?

Could there be some sort of camera/microphone in the vault where they are keeping "Henry" So that they can communicate with him while he is in there? so that henry can be the eyes? jsut a thought!

Bye~

I saw the black rock behind Jack and thought it was oddly placed. LIke one of those things that they're making sure you see, but I didn't know why. and isn't that the clearing where the balloon supposedly was?

Who CARES about "Alias"?! How dare they use up LOST's timeslot! sigh...a LOSTless week...

Ian said...

Gear up for another one. No new episodes until May!

BethsMomToo said...

I did see that there are only 4 new episodes left in this season, and they are planning to air them consecutively. So that means next week is a repeat or bump, and then the season ends at the end of May?

Ian said...

Yup. May 24th is the season finale. It will probably be a big 2 hr episode.

OK so thinking more about LOST. even though we didn't watch it this week! ugh. Michael was in the hospital too. Remember he was hit by a car? In rehab for months...another person to add to my list!

Are you literally keeping a list, Jen? It's not a bad idea. Make a list of all the characters and then fill in their possible medical connection as it is revealed. I think you're onto something. If the Hanso Foundation is involved in prolonging life (according to their "website") they would have such a medical connection.
