LOST: Hurley's Imaginings...or something

Ok...Ok...I've got a Greek test tomorrow and a Ladie's Class tonight and supper on the stove, but LOST is important, too! ;)

My take is this CAN'T just all be in Hurley's head, because:
1) Not everything is seen from his POV.
2) He's not the only one to see familiar animals &
people having actual substance.
3) The viewers would KILL them if they did that.

Didn't we all enjoy watching Sawyer get whopped...as did the crowd!

Who is "he"? "Henry" is afraid of "him" and there was another mention to a "he" they were obeying back in the episode in the medical bunker. Is "he" the black smoke? An alien form? A Lego Geek gone mad? (that one was for Doug ;) It's definitely something/someone with tremendous power!

I don't believe "Henry" that nothing happened when the computer button didn't get pushed. The Others probably sent him there to convince them NOT to push it.

And what is Eko building? A church? Something to protect them from the black smoke? Does he know something about it after "communing" with it, that the others don't?

ok...waiting to NOT be the first one to post. BUT alas, I am!

Wow..what did you think of Libby?? any thoughts on her? was she a shrink and then lose it? she seems to know how to talk to people. Look at how she handled Claire. That couldn't be something that she just "picked up" while she was in the padded room! I really think it was funny watching Hurley talk with Dave. We figured him out early in the show because of the "dude" thing. He talked just like Hurley. You could see right through it. It was a good twist though. Are they going to give us Libby's story next week? Or is it all going to be about Jack?

LOJO picked something up, I will let her share it with all of you I won't burst her bubble!

Hurley and Sawyer...that was GREAT! It was fun to watch everyone stand back and watch Sawyer get what he deserved! Jin was the best, could you see him laughing while he was trying to pull him off of Sawyer? I wonder if Sawyer is starting to feel less powerful. After Jack got the meds last week, and now Hurley "hurling" himself on him!

Echo: building something and not wanting anyone to know what it is...what do you think? A church, a confessional? A 7 Eleven ;)

Who is HE? well, I am wondering if it is the man in the video clips that we have seen of the Dharma project. I do think that he did push the buttons, but did specifically wait until he knew that the black light would show the map of the island. He knows what he is doing. they had to have sent him there. what about the note that the real Henry wrote to his wife? Do you think that it is real or did Sayid write it to "catch" Henry in another lie? Why won't he tell them his real name now? he knows that they know! that is bizarre.

Do all the people that are now on the island from the crash have some sort of medical history?

Jack worked in a hospital...
hot lips was shot...
Hurley in the padded room...
Libby in the padded room...
Locke kidney and what ever else...
Sun in for baby stuff...
were they all exposed to Dharma before they got there and it brought them all there?
Just throwing that out there!

OK...bye for now!

I agree with you Jen- I think the Dharma project picked them and was doing things to them before they got there. I'm even thinking that the Hurley's "imaginary" friend was real and the Dr.'s at the hospital altered the picture. I bet Libby was normal and they somehow induced here to get sick and sent here there. That is where Hurly picked up the numbers and how he got on the plane.

I thought the others were part of Dharma- but apparently they are trying to stop it. What if this plane isn't the first to be brought there and the others have been fighting it all along.

I love how Hurley was dealing with his eating disorder throws his stash away and a huge pile of food lands in the jungle- ha!

I'm going crazy here...Laurie better post soon! (She told Jen & I last night at Ladies' Bible Study...and YOU thought we just talked about the Bible! ;)She noticed a GOOD one...you're going to love it!!

I don't think it's entirely improbable for Libby to "pick up" treatment techniques due to her experience as a patient. (The things the Psychiatrist & Libby say are pretty standard counseling stuff.)It is possible she is a Psychiatrist who suffered a breakdown. In reality...you would be AMAZED how many people study Psychology because THEY have problems and issues to deal with!! I kid you not...I've seen it happen quite often. (Those people don't tend to last, however, when it actually comes to counseling people.)

Jen made a good point about Dave talking just like Hurley. I, too, thought maybe the imaginary thing was just a set-up, BUT when they showed Libby at the end, there really was no one with Hurley when his Doc took the picture. And did you notice that Dave appeared only when Hurley was gorging himself or WANTING to gorge himself? (I wish Hurley had shown the slipper to someone, like Kate made sure Sawyer could see the horse!)

I don't think the guy on the video clip is "He/Him"...not nearly sinister enough! Are "The Others" really nice people trying to overcome the Dharma project? They use pretty severe tactics to be nice guys! And how DOES Walt fit in? [btw...in the preview for next week (4 NEW episodes in a row?!!), did I see Jack and Kate working together as a team again?]

When we first met Libby back in the first Tailee's episode, she was helping to set a guy's broken leg and was asked if she was a doctor. She said that she was going to be, but switched to clinical psychiatry. Could it be that in her doctoral studies (which would allow her to prescribe medications), she became dependant on some kind of psych med? One of the first things she said in this past episode was that exercise was "addictive". Also, she sure seemed pretty experienced in her helping Hurley with his addiction to food. My theory is that she got hooked on something, separated from reality, and got thrown in the same 'ol cracker factory as Hurley.

Good stuff on Dave: the ubiquidous "Dude" and only apppearing when Hurley was struggling with food/giving into his addiction. Both were subtle, but purposeful.

The Others are most definitely, at least as I see it, part of the Dharma project. Remember Ethan Frome, the doctor that tried to take Claire's baby, was talking to a dis-bearded Zeke in the hallway of the medical hatch? Unless the others took over a defunct Dharma project and are doing their own thing with the facilities, but I think there is too much evidence that shows the project is still up and running.

I still think that the "Him" is either Alvar Hanso or Jack's dad.

Ecko: building a church? Maybe a temple or an altar? If so, what would be the sacrifice? What did he and the smoke "say" to each other? Or, it could just be a Starbucks like Charlie said.

Jen said...

Starbucks yeah that is good. Nikki, what do you think?

LOJO, we are waiting for you to share with everyone else what you discovered!!! please post soon!

Remind me who Alvar Hanso is. And I'll get after Laurie this AM in church. If SHE doesn't tell you, Jen or I will. You GOTTA hear this!! [Laurie is obviously NOT taking her LOST responsibilities seriously...probably because she's spending so much time doing her homework for the Philippians study. ;)

I was contemplating the possibility of "him" being Jack's Dad. I remember seeing the empty casket, but did Jack actually identify the body in Australia? Do we know if there was a body in there to begin with?

My problems with Jack's Dad being behind it all are:
1) He had a major problem with alcohol; probably not the best qualification for good leadership. And it wasn't just "hearsay" - there were bottles in his hotel room, he met Sawyer at a bar, etc.

2) Others have "seen" familiar people/things while on the island. Jack seeing his Dad, considering the "issues" they had, seems quite probable in that scenario. His "Dad" led him to the caves & the empty casket, though, didn't he? Was he helping?

3) I can't imagine a Dad wanting to put his own child through such a thing. Even if you're a mad scientist, you want the best for your own kids. ("research has shown...." ;)

However, my only alternative suggestion is Walt, though he seems kind of young for the position.

Hey, it just occurred to me that maybe "the Others" took the children in order to immunize them and save them. (they could have just ASKED, of course)

Good catch Laurie!
Mom- they did ID Jack's dad's body in Australia- I think we saw the hand- and his friend that was with him vomitted.

As far as putting your kids through things- what about Mulder's father giving his sister to the project in an effort to save her?

And then there's the classic- Darth Vader wanting Luke to join him- I guess it is more dramatic to keep it in the family.

I HAD considered X-Files, but then thought if they did that it would be just too much like X-Files, especially considering some of the same writers have worked on both shows. I didn't consider Star Wars...maybe those "studies" were wrong. ;)

Wasn't that a GREAT catch by Walter & Laurie? I want to look back to that episode to make sure. (I can't believe how poor my memory is! That episode was NOT that long ago! All that Greek must be pushing other stuff out of the way to make more room...;)

well, leah and I got back from LA yesterday and watched episode. I'm proud to say that I said in the first seen with 'Dave' in the gym that he wasn't real. no one saw him, Hurley had complained that he didn't do work, his doctor was encouraging him to not be with him.

as far as Libby, Leah and I were talking about it. either she says she was a psychologist because she knew them well, or she was able to overcome and wanted to give back to those people. that may be why she likes Hurley because she knows what he is going through. But Hurley had said he recognized her, but why didn't she recognize him? he's pretty recognizeable.

another thing, so far almost everyone has had some role in someone's death. the ones I can't think about is Sun, the deceased Shannon, Claire, Locke, Rose and her husband, and Charlie. but a couple of those wouldn't be surprising if they had.

maybe more later...

Libby looked pretty zonked on drugs in that hospital. I doubt she noticed anything or anybody in that condition!

Just because Libby hasn't said that she remembers Hurley doesn't mean that she doesn't. There's a lot of people with a lot of secrets on that island. Even Hurley told himself, via Dave, that it was silly to believe that someone like Libby would fall in love with him, especially in such a short time, so maybe she actually fell in love with him in the nut farm.

Jen said...

BUT!! did you see the look on her face just before it flashed to her being in the "nut farm" She looked a little like -no way would I fall for you- did anyone else see the look she gave? Or maybe it was a look like -you have nooooo idea buddy!- just an observation I made!

This blog is like so totally boring. What is an entry per week with two contributors. Honestly, I may have to get a life.
