Again, I have youth group so I will watch the epi later. But before I do, go ahead and talk about it and what you think!
I'm a fourth year seminary student attempting to balance life, youth ministry, and academics along with preparing to have a child. This is about being in the world but not of the world. I'll talk about everything from the Word of God, my wife, recent books, the Red Sox, Lost, my ministry, interesting insights into our culture, and anything else that runs across my plate.

This episode made me dislike Saywer even more than I ever have before.
So many people want Kate to "choose" Sawyer. However, when Juliette, out of a little sympathy, offered her canteen of water, what did Sawyer do? Like the "tough guy" that wants to make a point, he dumps it out on the ground.
If he really loved Kate, he would have taken that water and offered it to Kate!
However, I am glad that I was right about eh fact that the "kiss" that we've been seeing in the previews was not am indication of who she choose.
My wife and I shared many more of our thoughts like this in our Weekly Lost Podcast. If you've never heard of a podcast before, check it out by going to http://generallyspeakingpodcast.com
Cliff
Between my fuzzy flickering TV and falling asleep through most of it, all I remember is Sun and Kim on the boat, and I think I woke up when Sun shot somebody...???
Good news "Firefly" fans - Nathan Fillion [Capt.Mal Reynolds of "Firefly"] will be in an episode of LOST this season! He's in a back episode of Kate's. Wouldn't that be cool if he continues making appearances from time to time?!
Concerning last night's episode: We know that Sun can lie and her husband knows more about her than he's been letting on.
Is Colleen dead or alive? And why would anyone bother with a "triangle" involving Benry? Yuck! So he was raised on the island, huh? Was he a kidnapped child? Btw, Tim's theory that there are two groups of Others, and the other group took the children...Don't you remember that Nathan told Hot Lips the children were OK? And HE is from this group.
Is the manual labor part of wearing them down psychologically? And if Sawyer is so smart, why didn't he figure out they would be watching and listening to him while he's in the cage?
Favorite line: "You taste like fish biscuits."
well, I wasn't feeling well last night so we ended up getting home from church earlier than normal. so we got to see the epi.
Just to let you guys know who Cliff is, he and his wife have a podcast I've been listening to and they have a website (ravencroft.com) that has a lost-forum on it. I like it a lot because there aren't 10,000 posts you have to go through. They are also Christians and Cliff is involved in ministry, too.
Cliff says he doesn't like Sawyer even more, but I liked him more after this episode. Except I thought he was pretty stupid for talking like that because I figured someone was listening to them. They woudn't place them somewhere without wanting to hear them. I also liked how he picked a fight just to see who would do what. it reminded me of the movie "Lost Castle" (great Robert Redford movie!) where they pick fights to see how the prison guards would react.
This episode was probably my favorite thus far just because of the Red Sox references! That was awesome. Jack's all, 'if you want me to believe you, you should have picked another team.' ahaha.
Beth- we'll get the tape and watch it together when you are out here. and we'll try to catch the next one together, too.
- What do we make of Alex and Carl? It looked like Alex was mia since they were giving away her dresses.
- and it looks like benry and juliet indeed did have a relationship. yuk. 'you never made me soup' shut up.
- I knew Sayid wasn't as stupid as he was making himself out to be. But what would make him think they would be coming for him? he knows they didn't want him since they didn't ask for him. there was just a disconnect in his thinking.
- anything on benjamin linus?
- and now we know he's been there his whole life.
- neither leah or I thought Sun had slept with the skinny bald guy. Leah was like, 'well, it still doesn't mean he did.' i lost respect for her, and now we definitely have to question who the father is. if he was the father, she'd be about 10 weeks now.
- more later!
i know there are two group of others and am fairly convinced that they are good compared to the other group of others. and now I want to know what in the world ben wants Jack to do.
and I can't wait to see Nathan Fillion. I love Firefly! great tv show and movie (serenity).
wait, who's nathan?
I meant "Ethan", I think. The Other who infiltrated the tailenders.
What's the link with the aquarium as part of the Dharma research? Why dolphins and sharks? They are natural enemies...dolphins have special empathetic skills...sharks are efficient killers...any other ideas? And the bear cages...polar bear? Are these people genetically created and that's why Benry has lived his whole life on the island? Is this a "Dark Angel" kind of thing?
And, Tim...I did get the "Firefly" set of DVD's - 4 unaired episodes!! Funny show...but also able to make me frightened. Why were they so quick to cancel it? It certainly was better than "Dead Like Me". There's no accounting for SciFi Channel sometimes.
BUT...the Second Season of "Doctor Who" has started! I've only seen the first two episodes and I hope they aren't going to continue with the inappropriate bent I've seen a few times - there was nothing like that last year. I hope just because they have a younger Doctor they won't head down the innuendo route. David Tennant is funny...but nowhere near as good an actor as Christopher Eccleston. It's too bad he didn't come back.
Oh - I saw a blow up from the Book Club. The Stephen King book WAS "Carrie". How could that be ANYBODY'S "favorite" book? Do they not read much? Entertaining...sure - but not "favorite". Puhleeze...I think less of the woman now! ;)
the only 'other' that hot lips ever talked to was goodwin and Benry. I think you're talking about Goodwin.
first welcome Cliff!
ok, Beth...when are you heading out? lucky!!
Sun broke the ballerina and lied to her father, he knew she lied but he still took her word for it.
Did she sleep with the the tall skinny guy? I don't think so, but she did go down a few pegs in my book. And Jin didn't know that they were together because if he did, he would have shot him I think.
Sawyer is a jerk. Why did he risk kissing her? he knew what would happen. It could have been her that was shocked... a little too risky for me!
Colleen: is she dead? or will she be ok, there is a love triangle there odd yes. but definitly there. Did they all grow up there or has Colleen been kept there from an accident of some sort, boat, plane, hotair balloon? How many were raised there?
Alex: must be awol, I wonder if her mother has found her yet. And who is Carl? I thought he was a "plant" but I guess he really is a prisoner.
Sayid: I can't believe that he didnt' think they would go on the boat and not be on the beach. Not as savvy as he would like us all to think he is.
OK, that is all for now! more later when I have the time!
Just a few things:
Sun's skinny bald guy didn't jump. I'm pretty convinced he was thrown, probably by Sun's father or someone he sent in case Jin couldn't do the job. Maybe the guy he sent with Jin to teach him how to "deliver messages" (remember him from season 1 or 2?). Just a gut feeling at this point.
Ben Linus. I think he might be the son of one of the original Dharma people. Google his name. It's pretty interesting what comes up. Not sure if it's official/genuine, but still interesting.
There's got to be at least two groups of others, but I think it's a fairly recent situation. Alex was being all, "don't let them know I'm talking to you," with Kate, and she asked about Chachi (I like that so much more than Carl). Also, Alex was with Zeke and some of the other, um, Others when they had Kate with the bag over her head (remember?). And, in the grand scheme of things, that wasn't a really long time ago. So, I'm thinking that some of the Others have defected and tried to escape the colony or whatever.
What kind of repercussions will Sun killing that woman bring?
Sawyer's the man.
Tim-
I don't think Sayid so much thought the Others wanted him as much as he thought they would want to know what was going on. He lit the fire to get their attention and get them to come investigate.
In watching the bonus stuff on the season 2 DVD's- the shark that attacked Sawyer when they were making the raft had a Dharma emblem on it- so they are part of the project- probably genetically engineered or something.
Also, I didn't catch that the purpose of the hatch with the button is to disengage the magnet buildup (there's a scientific term for this I can't remember now)- Jack's key around his neck moves toward it. This part of the hatch is sealed off- like biohazard waste- the big mistake of darmah- now the purpose of the button is contain the mistake.
The hatch was also a character of season 2- it brought out the worst in people (esp. Locke). In Locke's previous life he was in a cubicle pushing a button, he evolved being on the island, was able to walk, and after being in the hatch he was again in a cubicle pushing a button and had difficulty walking (when the blast doors fell).
I think in this episode we will be seeing the "other other's"- the others we know keep on telling the plane people they are the good ones- soon we will meet the bad ones.
i can't believe the girls. Why can't you see that Sun slept with him? I don't want to get graphic, but someone doesn't lay in bed naked like that before they have sex. Either way, she was nake in bed, the deed itself is almost irrelavent.
I think he did kill himself. he was clutching the necklace to show that he was full of grief over Sun and his relationship.
I like the idea that the other group of others are ones who rebelled like Alex and Carl.
And Sawyer only kissed Kate to see how they would react. He was testing them to see how they would fight him and see who are the people who are really willing to finish him or Kate. He concluded that Juliet would, but doubted the others. Sawyer is planning his escape as best he can.
First, I agree with Ian that the bald guy was killed by someone "backing up" Jin. And I thought Jin finally got the significance of his father-in-law's words when he saw him grasping the necklace in his dead fist. I thought the sight of that necklace made everything click for him - an "aha" moment.
Did she actually do the deed? I would assume so except for her saying, "I can't do it." She couldn't have been referring to running away to America with him, because he hadn't brought that up yet. It is possible that she got that far and said, "No".
Tim- Yeah, I meant Goodwin. Thanks.
The thing about Sawyer provoking the Others by kissing Kate - SHE had seen that Sawyer would be injured if she was uncooperative. The chances were good that KATE would have been injured for Sawyer's disobedience. I don't think it was really thoughtful of him to provoke them - he put Kate at risk. [similar to not handing her the water bottle]
And, yes, I saw "Serenity". Tim brought it home for me to see. Such a thoughtful guy...He's also the one who put me onto buying the DVDs.
I came across something of possible interest as I was reading this AM. You know how the show seems to tie in with Ancient Egypt and Greek mythology? Well, The dolphin was believed to serve as the guardian protector and guide of seamen. One manifestation of Apollo was Apollo Delphinios -delphis/dolphin.
There was a temple dedicated to him at Miletus [On the Western coast of Asia Minor, just south of Ephesus - where Paul met with the Ephesian elders on his way back to Jerusalem, 3rd Journey (Acts 20:15-17)].
